Hello! All BSNL Dataone users (maybe others too)!
If you have been experiencing frequent problems relating to downloads then I hope I can help you through this post.
Yes, it is true that when there comes the question of downloading data from a p2p source, BSNL proves to be really pathetic. But still… the speed is OK during the non-unlimited hours. From 2-8 am it may sometimes come down to a painstaking rate of 16 kb/s also. I too was having the same problem uptil I got some tweaks on the net.These tips help you configure your bittorrent clients to download at faster speeds(For free rapidshare users there is no solution, obviously until you hack a premium account!)

Here are some tips to cater to your problems:

1. I would recommend all users to use the Lightweight Bittorrent client, uTorrent. Though very miniscule in size, it can still offer the functionality and speeds of other clients. In fact, it is rated No. 1 in almost all bittorrent ratings. So, let’s get started -

~ Download the Latest version of uTorrent(if beta is also available, download it) here

~ Double click the downloaded file. It automatically gets installed.
~ Then again double-click it if not already launched.
~ Go to Options > Preferences.
~ Under the General Tab, check Pre-allocate files.
~ Next, go to the Connection tab and check Enable UPnP port-mapping and set
the
random port to something around 40000.
~ Go to the Bandwidth and set Maximum Upload Limit to 22.
Global Maximum number of connections: between 125 and 140.
Maximum number of connected peers per torrent: 70-80.
Number of upload slots per torrent:3.
Check Use additional upload slots if upload speed < 90 %
~ Next, use the BitTorrent tab and Check the following:
Enable DHT Network
Ask Tracker for scrape information
Enable DHT for new torrents
Enable Local Peer Discovery
Enable Peer Exchange
NOTE: Enable Protocol Encryption and set it to Forced followed by
checking Allow incoming legacy connections.
~ Go to Queueing tab and set the following:
Maximum number of active torrents: 2
Maximum number of active downloads: 1
Thats it! You are done! If you expect a considerable change in the speed then go to
the second bit below.

2. By default XP allows a maximum number of 10 half-open connections which results in
slower download speeds. But fortunately, you can change it by patching your tcpip.sys.

The above patch removes any half-open TCP/IP connection limitations in Windows XP SP2(Remember, don’t patch some other OS!)that is, it modifies it from 10 to somewhere around 50. This is a very reliable tool for increasing your transfer rates. But still I don’t take any responsibility if there is any damage to your OS, as this involves replacement of system files.

speeds considerably.
